



J.C. Calhoun was U.S. Secretary of War under President James Monroe when he signed this Revolutionary War veteran’s claim for a pension for Private John Tuttle. The U.S. War Office seal is affixed to the front of the claim.
The back side says “Payable semi-annually. Certificate will be made on the 4th of September next, in Chilicothe, Ohio, at the Branch Bank U.S. There is another signature on the bottom which is hard to decipher.
There is also the number 12, 826 written in ink on the inside.
Size: Open, it measures about 10 ¼” by 16 ½”. The main part of the document measures 10 ¼” by 8 ¼”.
Condition: Very good for its age. Fold marks, foxing, and some small holes, tears, along the fold lines.
